What's so hard about proving you are a US Citizen

I do not get it!! To get a drivers license, to register to vote, to get a SSN to get a job, you have to prove you are eligible by showing the proper clerk your Birth Certificate. Somehow Mr Obama has gotten away with not showing his.

Secondly, I am wondering how he traveled to Pakistan in 1981 when ordinary US Citizens weren't allowed to travel there. (Did he have an Indonesian Passport? I've read they only give those out to Indonesian citizens and do not recognize dual citizenship.)

I was also wondering how in matters of the Constitution "We the People" don't have the standing to make sure candidates for office on the ballot, are in fact eligible to serve. If "We the People" don't, then why not? and who does?

My last question is on whether a person who had dual citizenship as a child is eligible to president at all.

Let's hope the SCOTUS justices agree to hear this one. I think our country's survival depends on it. Of course if they hear the NJ case (google search donofrio) McCain is probably out too. I guess that makes Pelosi president. I wonder if that is what she is hoping for?

Job Interview

I had my interview with the company that won the contract my old company had thought they won.

I also got a job offer. (Whoo Hoo!)

Money's OK, it about makes up for the benefits I'm losing.

I hope this company can keep the contract. I love the job, but I hate this changing employers thing.

My husband really hates the down time between contracts.

Here's to work.

VP Debate

I watched Thursday's debate. I thought Gov Palin was wonderful. I did notice that she avoided some of the questions, or answered only the part she wanted to answer.
Senator Biden, on the other hand lied 10-14 times (or was factually wrong), depending on who you listened to after the debate. A big one was you won't pay anymore in taxes that we did under President Reagan. He seems to forget the top rate then was 28% not 39%. I suppose he meant to say Pres Clinton, because 39% was the top rate then. But to people who voted for Reagan and remember the prosperity in the 80's invoking Reagan's name makes people pay attention.

I did decide that few people would change their vote based on this debate, but it did motivate me to get a McCain/Palin sign for my yard.

I'm pleased to say that it has been there for 2 days now and was still there the last time I looked.
When I picked up my sign someone else at the GOP HQ mentioned she needed a replacement sign 'cause hers had gone missing. I guess free speech means tear down the signs of people you don't like.

The house across the street from me has Democrat Party signs, so I hope I don't lose mine. I like having a contrast of the different people running for office.

Bailout??

I wonder what has happened to our Constitution.

When did we start letting Congress take from the poor and give to the rich?

Up until recently they were taking from the rich and giving to the poor.

I think their definition of "rich" was anyone at or above the poverty line.

I think that most of the members Congress have decided that they get their cut first.

Companies used to fail depending on their business models. Remember Montgomery Ward's or maybe Enron?

Many banks have failed in our history ... Panics happened on a regular basis before the Great Depression, but my history book shows none since (except maybe the Keating 5 thing) ... until now.

The bank failures don't really effect me. I still pay my mortgage and credit card bills. I pay my car payments. With checks written on a bank that still receives my direct deposit.

I think if this bank/credit meltdown had happened next year or in 2005, Congress would have called for more regulation, had a hearing or two and gone back to business as usual.

What a difference an election makes.

Lost/Battlestar Galactica Season hiatus

Spoilers ahead!!!

I just caught up on my shows - BSG and Lost. Lost ended with a two hour bang - about what I had expected. The message at the end of this season had a lot of answers - but also a new mission. I thought it quite fulfilling, and can't wait for next season - whenever that is.

Ron Moore on the other hand is quite a prize jerk. Teasing all year that the final cylon would be revealed... but is is only a mid-season hiatus (of course the next half of the season is NEXT YEAR!!)
OOOOhhh I could just scream!!

Maybe its time to get hooked on Dr Who?

Oil Prices

It bugs me that Congress complains about an 8% profit for oil companies, yet the federal gov't gets 18+ cents per gallon in taxes. (Texas takes 22 cents per gallon). If gov't would do their job and get out of the way by relaxing regs for new refineries and allowing safe drilling in currently restricted areas, the price of oil would start to lower (and gov't would still get their cut).

For those of you who claim it would take 10 years to do any good - remember that the GOP tried to fix this in 95, and if Pres Clinton hadn't vetoed it we would be seeing the benefit now.

Not doing anything means we get to suffer longer.
